Custom Home of the Year

Annually, the Home Builders Association of Charlotte recognizes accomplishments of the last year in new home design and marketing. The winners receive a MAME (Major Achievement in Marketing Excellence) award.  The competition is always very good and the winners must stand out in a strong field  of challengers.  On March 24th at the Westin Hotel in uptown Charlotte, the MAME awards were presented. 1st River Cottage Is Sold in Springfield

Evan Coghill’s popular Homearama Charlotte plan, the River Cottage, has been sold in Springfield for the first time. The buyers commented how they fell in love with the plan when they saw it at Homearama in October and knew it was the right plan for them. We were able to make a few adjustments the plan to so it would suit their needs better. 1) The library on the main level was converted to a guest bedroom for a visiting mother-in-law. 2) The game room on the upper level was expanded by three feet to accommodate heirloom furniture. 3) A three car garage was added in lieu of the two car...

Porches need to create a link to the outdoor living space. Evans Coghill’s Homearama home has reintroduced front and back porches as a key...

Voted “Best Kitchen” Homearama Charlotte 2011

Homearama Charlotte features 5 great homes with 5 great kitchens, but the judges have spoken and said Evans Coghill’s kitchen is THE BEST KITCHEN in the show.  At the show yesterday, everyone agreed with the judges.  Some thought is was because of the location of the kitchen in home. (It flows very well with the adjacent family room). Some believe it was the creative use of the cabinet color constrasted against a darket color on the island. (The cabinets are “celedon” which is a beautiful sage green.) Some thought is was the understated backsplash or the very...

A Shower and a Cooktop – An Unscripted Look at Them

What does a shower and cooktop have in common? Both are very unique features of our Homearama 2011 home and Chris Folk takes an unscripted look at both of them here. It is a cooktop like you have never seen before and a shower like you will never want to get out of. A Really Unique Cooktop that Boils Water in Seconds The cooktop is amazing. It cooks using electromagnetic waves not direct heat. Boils water incredibly fast but the surface of the cooktop does not heat up. Watch when Chris boils the water, puts his hand on the burner and does not get burned. Great feature because spilled food...
